The 53rd season of Straw Hat started out with a production of “Church Basement Ladies” that took to the stage at the end of May. This Norwegian based comedy has been around for a number of years, but retains its charm as a hit in the midwest that reminds many of growing up in the region. Next came “Blame it on the Movies.” This production is made up of over 75 songs from some of the most popular movies that we’ve all come to know and love. “Blame it on the Movies” commanded the stage from June 7th to 10th. The group’s third production “Greater Tuna” took stage on the 14th and had its final performance on the 17th. This production centers around a small town in Texas and has two actors to portray the variety of citizens in the tiny Texan town. The final Straw Hat production of the season that takes the stage for the first time tonight it “The Wedding Singer.” This well known story started on the silver screen and was later adapted for the stage. “The Wedding Singer” musical took the stage for the first time in 2006 on Broadway and has since become a hit across the country and around the world. World Blood Donor Day 2016

Blood Donor Day

June 14th is World Blood Donor Day. Each year the World Health Organization (WHO) organizes a special day to recognize all of those who have saved a life by donating blood. The recipients of these donations are all so thankful as is WHO. The 2016 theme is “Blood Connects Us All.” No matter who you are, what you look like, or where you live we all have blood coursing through our veins. This life saving blood can easily be donated and shared with those who desperately need it. Blood transfusions save millions of lives each year. This blood helps to make necessary surgeries possible, provide maternal and child care, as well as save the lives of many in the event of a natural disaster. If you do not currently donate blood regularly WHO and the School of Nursing and Healthcare Leadership strongly suggest you give it a try. Donation stations travel across the country and finding a blood drive can be as easy as making a phone call. To learn more about how to donate or where to donate visit the links below.
