Every year, on March 24th, the world stops and acknowledged World Tuberculosis Day. According to the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention, March 24th is the day that Dr. Robert Koch announced the discovery of the bacillus (bacteria) that causes the disease tuberculosis. March 24th is used as a day to raise awareness that tuberculosis is still a very present and deadly disease and not just something from Dickens or Les Mis.
According to the global Stop TB Partnership, tuberculosis kills an average of 1.5 million people every year, mostly in developing countries.
The theme for World Tuberculosis Day 2016 is “Unite to End TB”.
