It is important for people of all ages to have regular physical activity. Participating in National Physical Fitness and Sports Month is a great way to start being active and spreading the word! There are many opportunities for everyone to do more physical activities this month. Here is a list of a few ideas:
- Go for a walk or a bike ride in the evenings with the family.
- Encourage teachers and work administrators to include some type of physical activity everyday.
- While watching television, stand or do some stretching instead of sitting.
Why is it important?
For children and adolescent it can improve muscular fitness and bone health. For adults, being active can reduce your risk of many different types of diseases including heart disease, type 2 diabetes and cancer. For older adults being active will lower the risk of being injured from falls and it also improves learning and judgment skills.
